Work Permit Information You Need to Know

Working legally in every country requires work permit, including Indonesia. This country applies some regulations related to foreigners who want to work. To process the permit, you have to meet the general requirements including education related to your position, certificate of competence, and health or life insurance. There is no age requirement, which means you are eligible for the permit at any age. However, you should have at least 5 years of working experience in the same field.

Working in gas and oil industry is an exception. There are specified age requirements to get the permit. You must be at least 30 years and should not exceed 55 years. It is based on the regulation of Indonesian law. However, the age specification does not apply for high level position which requires expertise. Things to note, there are some positions that foreigners can hold. It relates to human resources, medical industries and legal.

When it comes to work permit validity, it depends on the agreement between you and your employer. However, it is important to remember that you can only get 6 to 12 months of permit to work in Indonesia. If you wish to process a permit, you need to know the new regulations. Previously, it is known as working IMTA. Now, it is replaced with a notification that's valid as long as the agreement between you and your employer.

The permit is also extendable. According to the new regulations, foreigners are allowed to work in Indonesia as long as the contract states. Two year limitation is valid for this. One month before the notification expires, the Ministry of Manpower will send bill to pay your second year of employment. If you have work permit for less than 2 years, extension is also allowed. Extension should be processed at least 2 months before the expired.
